Anatomy and physiology of the renal system, kidney, glomerulus and renal physiology. This illustration represents the anatomy of the urinary system and more particularly of the kidney and the glomerulus. From left to right, the urinary system is represented in a woman´s silhouette with the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, bladder. In addition, we distinguish the vascularization of the kidney with the renal veins and arteries from the inferior vena cava and the abdominal aorta. The physiology of the kidney is illustrated in the center with the organ in section. The kidney regulates the amount of water in the body by injecting water and minerals back into the bloodstream (red arrows). They produce hormones, erythropoietin (pink pastilles) for the production of red blood cells and renin (green pastilles) for the regulation of blood pressure. Finally, it eliminates waste from the body by filtering the blood at the level of the glomerulus (zoom). The organic residues are evacuated in the form of urine by the ureter and the bladder.
